During their media briefing, Nintendo announced WiiSpeak, a first-party accessory which will effectively bring voice chat to the Wii via a microphone attachment that can be placed near the TV and allow one or more players to speak into it. Consider it a "community microphone" that will allow all players in the same room to communicate with other Wii owners. Users will also be able to post messages to friends' cell phones and message boards. The peripheral was demonstrated alongside the new Animal Crossing: City Folk, which has been announced as the first game to be compatible with the WiiSpeak.
